Minaret Formwork
In brief
Minaret formwork is a modular system that allows the minaret shaft to be cast in place while following its upward taper. Zahan İnşaat manufactures base, transition, shaft, şerefe and cap formwork to each project’s dimensions; because the formwork combines a steel frame with a fibreglass (GRP) face, it can be reused dozens of times.
In a minaret it is the formwork that sets the geometry. The section changes continuously as the shaft tapers upwards, and a standard wall form cannot follow that reduction. Minaret formwork is therefore a system calculated for each project’s own taper.
Zahan İnşaat also produces the formwork system it developed for its own sites for other contractors and mosque associations. We do not simply hand the formwork over: at the first setup we train the site crew in assembly and striking.
Parts of the formwork system
A set of minaret formwork maps one to one onto the parts of the minaret:
- Base formwork — for the square or polygonal lower block, with chamfer details.
- Transition formwork — the piece that takes the section from square to round; the hardest surface in the set.
- Shaft formwork — the main form that accommodates the conical taper and rises module by module.
- Şerefe formwork — the special form containing the muqarnas ring and the balustrade openings.
- Cap formwork — a fibreglass shell for the conical finish.
Why fibreglass and steel are used together
Fibreglass (GRP) is used on decorated faces and steel on the flat, load-carrying parts. The fibreglass shell reproduces details such as muqarnas, flutes and rosettes with a smooth surface, while the steel frame holds the form against the pressure of the concrete. This pairing raises both the quality of the detail and the number of reuses.
Buying and hiring formwork
For a one-off mosque project, buying the formwork is usually unnecessary. We also supply the same set on a hire basis and take it back at the end of the project. For contractors planning more than one minaret, purchase works out more economical, in which case we manufacture the formwork to your own standard dimensions.

Frequently asked questions
How many times can a set of minaret formwork be used?
With regular maintenance and the correct release agent, our steel-framed, fibreglass-faced formwork holds its surface quality for 40–60 pours. When the fibreglass shell wears, only that piece is replaced; the steel frame stays in service.
Do you manufacture the formwork to suit my own minaret design?
Yes. Shaft height, lower and upper diameters, şerefe level and motif details are taken from your architectural drawings, and the formwork is made to those dimensions. If you have no drawings, we can also proceed by scaling one of our standard minaret types.
Do we erect the formwork ourselves?
You can erect it with your own crew; at the first assembly our technical staff are on site and demonstrate the setting-up, raising and striking steps hands-on to your team. On request we also provide site support throughout the whole pouring programme.
