Automotive service and sales buildings are long-span structures carrying heavy loads: lifts, vehicle traffic and stored parts act on the slabs continuously. On such buildings, strengthening usually comes up after a change of use or an assessment of the existing structure.
At the Mengerler Samsun facility the work was carried out while the business ran. The service centre did not close and the showroom stayed open; the work was staged section by section.
Working without closing the business
In a commercial facility the real cost of strengthening lies less in the trades than in the days lost to closure. We therefore plan the work with the operator:
- The working area is divided into sections; while one is under construction the others stay in use.
- Dust-producing surface preparation is moved outside business hours.
- Ventilation and cure times are planned ahead for the epoxy odour.
- At the end of each stage the area is cleaned and handed back.
