Mosques built inside housing developments have to speak to the architecture of the estate. At this mosque in Eston Şehir the façade is stone clad; the minaret shaft was left white to set up a contrast.
The fluted shaft and the muqarnas şerefe are two details that hold the classical language. Both came off the mould, so there is no layer added over the surface afterwards.
Setting out a mosque within an estate
A mosque inside a housing development sits close to the flow of daily life: parking, footpaths and landscaping are designed with it. The level of the minaret base is set so that the şerefe is seen at the right angle from the courtyard and pedestrian levels.
